RIAA suggests Improved Copyright Law

August 24th, 2010 Posted in Internet

Recording Industry Association of America’s President Cary Sherman said that monitoring all the infringements on the Internet is impossible and that it that the Copyright law “ isn’t working”. The 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act  has become controversial because it was not solid enough to keep opportunist from stealing copyrights. In the year 2007 the U.S. copyright law actually experienced its glory days when the past Bush administration said that there were $222,000 courtroom victories against pirates who tried to keep the blindfold on Lady Justice. But alas, changing times needs versatile laws. The copyright law as observed by the public has undeniable loopholes. Violators of this law will be denied access from the infringing materials or said materials will be removed from the Internet. Besides that step to stop pirates from plundering the riches of the cyber seas, these bold pirates keep on popping up like unwanted zits. This, although an important part of the copyright law, is also the defect that absolves giant web- based companies and broadband  providers from the acts of pirates who have complete appendages and dexterous fingers.
Sherman adds that the U.S congress should get broadband providers, Web hosts, payment processors, and search engines to agree to a formalizing law which will cover the loopholes of the existing copyright law. Since the violations in the Internet can only be detected and acted upon if people report suspected infringements on the copyright law there really is a need for  better copyright laws.
